Aurora Fashion Week Russia in Notion Issue 55!

Ooohhh Hiya!!!
Happppyyy New Year!!!!Ooooof...I've been totally off the radar over Christmas ....the world of nut roast and mince pies, prezzies and plenty of cheesy movies was simply too inviting!!!! Anywaysss....festivites over and away we go!!! Super excited for 2012 YEAHHHHHHHHHHH! So as I mentioned a few weeks ago on my blog, me and my chum, superstar magicalllllllll stylist supremo, Alexis Knox had packed our glittery bags and jetted off to beautiful St Petersberg thanks to a lovely invite from the team at 'Aurora Fashion Week Russia!' I've already given you the lowdown of what went on in an earlier rambling....but now you can read my full catwalk report in the brand new, issue 55 of Notion Magazine, complete with a 4 page feature, photos and gossip!!! So get yourself down to WH Smiths and all good newsagents and grab your very own glossy copy! Or.... you can read the online version HERE on pages 86-89!!!!
It was my first ever experience of visiting Russia and also of getting a peek into St. Petersberg's fashion scene....we were able to check out a load of great designers, a bunch of Fashionomica conferences, the accompanying tradeshow and side events....Whilst I'm on the subject, here are a few snaps from some of my favourite shows we hit up whilst in town.....

The 'Grazia Presents' showcase featured a string of emerging designers with a variety of looks covering plenty of plumage to nauticual influences mixed in with a bit of Grecian draping and black lace a-go-go.....

Here's a few from my personal highlights including Arngoldt, Bessarion and Sandra Straukaite......

'Kare' represented as 'Aurora Fashion Week Russia's' official interior partner with a fun installation complete with live models....and Minna Parikka showcased her awesome footwear and accessories in the programme's tradeshow!!!!

Cher Lloyd on 'The Xtra Factor'!!!

Oohh iya!
So I was SUPERRRRRR EXCITED when I spotted the AWESOME Cher Lloyd wearing my London skyline print dress on last night's live Final of ITV2's 'The Xtra Factor'! She looked DELUXE in it, gloriously styled by good old superstar stylist, Alexis Knox! She was chatting to hosts Olly Murs and Caroline Flack about this series' contestants and I'm mega happy that she wore it as it looked super hot!!!!!weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Obviously I got snap happy with the whole taking photos of a TV screen thing.....check it out!

'Secret Hideout' Editorial by 'Shoot The Model'!!!

Hello Hello!!!
Thought I would share a couple of images from a recent shoot titled 'Secret Hideout' by Vienna/Sao Paulo based international art project, 'Shoot the Model'. The project is the collaborative brainchild of David Tynnauer and Soraia Costa who work under the concept of 'Two continents, two languages, two cameras'. The duo, coming from backgrounds that include philosophy, theory of art, theatre science and performance art, together they produced these lovely images using some of my work during their recent project in London. LOVE this shoot!

New Photoshoot....

Bonjour!
Just a quick one on this chilly Saturday...got my pink pig slippers on and I'm surrounded by holographic sequins and pretty beads ready for an evening of hardcore embellishing! Thought I would share some images from a recent photoshoot by stylist Marina de Magalhaes who used some of my work...a couple of pieces from my series of printed garments from my SS11 collection, that was developed in Vienna, were featured in the shoot as you can see above... The pieces include the Fish and Chips print that I designed for showcase at the 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' exhibition and also the London skyline digital print on Lycra. LOVE the pictures from the shoot and LOVE all of the colours!!!!!!

Schnitzel Time! New Collaboration!

Guten Tag!
So as I recently mentioned, I've been working on a brand new collaboration with the lovely handbag designer, Helen Rochfort! The new fruit of our labours made it's debut at 'Pure London' a few weeks back and has now just launched at retail so you can get your mitts on our new bag! The piece is called 'Schnitzel Time' and features a piece of artwork that I created for our collab! The bag sits alongside Helen's yummy collection of designs, brand new collaborations with artists including Kitty Finegan and Amber Renee Amick and Helen's new series of awesome accessories including super hot watches and chocolate chunk rings!

From Russia with Love...

So it's been a mega busy week as I was doing a spot of work over in Russia! Myself and superstar stylist and Fashion Director, Alexis Knox, were invited over by Aurora Fashion Week Russia to cover the events for Notion Magazine. We jetted off to beautiful St Petersburg to check out their selection of awesome catwalk shows, trade presentations, altelier programmes and conferences. Aurora Fashion Week Russia organises a whole bunch of events and initiatives throughout the year including Fashion Week, exhibitions, White Night Shopping, a Fashion Film festival, industry conferences and Summer schools. It focuses on regional and federal politics within the Russian contemporary fashion scene as well as intergrating international designers and brands.

We shacked up in one of the oldest and most magical hotels in the city overlooking the magnificent St Issacs Cathedral which was a beaut of a view to enjoy over our morning, breakfast pancakes, or 'Blinis' as they are known in this neck of the woods! By day there was a series of 'Fashionomica' conferences hosted at the central AFW venue, 'Manege' exhibition hall, which is usually used as a centre for the contemporary arts, theatre and creative festivals set in a beautiful former horse guards riding school. Alexis churned out a hotttt presentation as guest speaker at 'Fashionomica' discussing the London design scene, economy within the industry and support structures for creatives available in the UK.

By night there was a string of back to back catwalk shows and various social events alongside static presentations, parties and press briefings. Aurora Fashion Week Russia presented the SS12 collections from designers around the world including Lithuania, Austria, UK, Ukraine and Spain alongside Russian designers hailing from St Petersburg and Moscow. Labels and shows included Tosha, Kute, Custo Barcelona, Arngoldt, Kamenskayakonova, Jana Segetti, Grazia Presents and Bessarion.

There was also a trade show running throughout the duration which presented designers including Petar Petrov and Minna Parikka as well as an Alice in Wonderland style installation from AFW's official interior partner, Kare. In conjunction with Aurora Fashion Week Russia there was also the 'Ready-To-Read' Festival, supported by the National Library of Russia and Dom Knigi, offering industry specific publications and plenty of awesome fasssshhhion books.

Ok, so that's my basic rundown of why I was over in lovely Russia....I shall whack out another blog post all about the shows complete with a few juicy catwalk images in the next few days as this entry is almost turning into a novel!
All and all our time in St Petersburg was so much fun and great to be introduced to so many new brands and an entirely different fashion scene....the city itself was like nowhere I've ever been before with pretty buildings aplenty, piles of Russian dolls, cherry dumplings galore and an abundance of spectacular, curly cathedrals! My full report on Aurora Fashion Week will be out in the next issue of Notion Magazine available at WH Smiths and the likes so keep an eye out for that!!!

In other news my brand new collaboration with handbag designer, Helen Rochfort, launched at retail today....woooo....the piece is called 'Schnitzel Time' and THIS is a direct link to her webshop....but I shall blog about that properly ASAP!! Also....some copies of 'Paper Magazine' arrived all the way from New York this morning with my juicy feature in so that was a nice suprise!

Mino Movie & Elevator Jingles!

Konnichiwa!!!
So one of the guys from the team at the project I did in Japan came across a little movie of the exhibition that I did called 'Let Momo Eat Cake' at the 'Mino Washi Museum' and kindly shared it with me. It features the series of work that I created during my time there alongside the work of my lovely, fellow artists in residence, Yoko, Kris and Lena. I especially love the cheesy elevator music that accompanies the montage!!! My stuff is at the end so check it out and don't ask me what the subtitles say as I can't speak the lingo!
For those of you that don't know about the project, I basically spent 3 months living in a small town called Mino, in Gifu Prefecture working with the 'Mino Paper Art Village Project'. I produced a collection of work titled 'Colourful Creatures are Often Poisonous' which you can peep at HERE if you like! We did a whole bunch of fun stuff from paper making to lantern workshops and I also exhibited a piece at the annual 'Akari Art Festival'. Iwas living in a real life Buddhist temple at the top of a hill and got involved in all sorts of antics ranging from almost being killed by a wild boar, dancing around in a Peruvian poncho and eating jacket potatoes with chopsticks. It was a weird and wonderful adventure with the chance to meet so many awesome people and I took about a million photos during my time getting down in the countryside!!! I haven't unleashed these pics on here before, so here's some snapshots from my stint in Mino!!!

I miss this place and the days of drinking an everlasting supply of Matcha latte!!!

Hiya!!!
Just a quick one for those of you attending Pure London this season! My new collaboration with British handbag designer, Helen Rochfort, has just launched yesterday at the tradeshow, YAYYYY!!!! The new design is called 'Schnitzel Time' and will be available to order from Helen's stand, K65. Exciting stuff!!! The booth is geared around a 'vintage fairground' theme and even comes complete with a 20p-a-go deer ride!!!!LOVE IT!!! So yeah, there's a sneak peak above at the 'Hook a Handbag'...but watch this space for news all about our new collab!!! Also from our previous project, the 'Owl-a-Rama' bag is still up for grabs!!!

Alexis Knox on 'New Look Style the Nation!'

Ooooooohhhh Hiya!!!
Fo the past few weeks I've been tuning into Channel 4's 'New Look Style the Nation' to watch superstar stylist, Alexis Knox, gracing our TV screens! With my beans on toast, I've been watching Knoxy in all her glory as a mentor on the show which sees her working with aspiring fashion stylists battling it out on the catwalk.
At the weekend we saw the final episode of the series and Alexis rocked out my striped 'Fish and Chips' printed dress!!! She looked hot to trot and here are a few pics of her wearing my stuff on the show!
Super proud of Knoxy for doing such a glorious job...what will become of Saturday mornings without her throwing out a few 'WOWZERS' on our telly?!?!!!!

Too Many Trinkets and Tokyo Memories!

Ooohhhh Hiya!!!!
Eeeekers so this is the first chance I've had to actually filter through all of the stuff that I brought back from Japan what with the Christmas missing baggage/ snow stranded scenario and then the quick turn around before I whipped off to Taiwan!
The amount of souvenirs that I dragged back is actually outrageous and I'm still going through the extra suitcase that I had to buy purely to pack up all of the excess trinkets!!! On top of that, bits and pieces that I couldn't shoehorn into my cases had to be whacked in a big box which only just recently made its way back from the ship!!!! Japan was a dream come true in terms of shopping and treat collecting and I now have a ridiculous amount of unnecessary stuff that I love!!! Treasures include 5 vintage kimono, a pair of awesome Geta shoes that I had custom made, numerous Bento boxes, 27 pairs of socks, plenty of chopsticks, a bundle of Japanese craft books, accessories, unbelievable amounts of stationary, a hand crafted lantern, 15 puffy animal paper balloons, random materials and work equipment, kitchen stuff, sushi moulds,too many Hello Kitty items, ornaments....you get the idea. Totally ridiculous. Either way I love these bits and pieces!!!
Also while I'm here I thought I would share some pictures from my time in Tokyo as I never got around to that either up until now! As I mentioned during my time in residence over in Japan I went up to Tokyo just before Christmas to work on my photoshoot as well as spend my birthday in the city!!! Fun Times and Tokyo is one of my all time favourite places....so I took about 2000 photos, but I shall spare you the slideshow and just show you a few below.....

Hello Hellooooo!!!!
So whilst in super productive mode today I have finally got around to updating some recent press features over this past few months... jeeeperssss all this living out of a backpack minus a mobile scanner whilst globetrotting left me with a bit of a mission!!!
So here are a few bits and pieces which include Miseducated (US), Spindle Magazine (UK) and pieces from the Yomiuri Shimbun and Gifu Shimbun (Japan).

In other news it's been a busy past couple of weeks...next month sees the launch of my new collaboration with the wonderful Helen Rochfort and I've been working on a really fun and colourful freelance project which I will update on soon!!!

Finally....I couldn't not mention this....but, today it was unleashed that Pat Butcher will be leaving Eastenders after about a million years....what a sad day....

Ahhhh life will never be the same without my style icon gracing our screens!!!

Sleaze Magazine Berlin and Wanderlust...

OOOh Hiya!!!!
So Sleaze magazine in Berlin recently featured my work in an article all about knitwear in their current issue which you can see above!!! My project that I carried out in Japan, 'Colourful Creatures are Often Poisonous' ,gets in on the action with my garments which were produced using knitted, crocheted and woven handmade paper.
With all of these weird and wonderful adventures my work has taken me on over the past couple of years I've recently cracked out a spot of travel writing for Wanderlust. The pieces cover the notion of using art as an alternative way to travel as well as a bit all about my trip to the Hello Kitty cafe in Taiwan a few weeks ago!

Good Eveningggg!!!
I can't believe it's actually been a year since we cracked open the doors of 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!'...doesn't time fly?! Since closing said doors for the last time back in September it seems like only yesterday we were surrounded by chip forks in the realms of lovely Vienna.... so me and Polona recently were invited to chat with the guys at 2010LAB at the Dortmund U about 'Creativity's impact on Society' for their wonderful 'INTER VIEW' series! While I'm on the topic of last year's extravaganza...I thought I would share some never seen before behind the scenes pictures of Team Fish and Chips in action and what goes on after hours!!!!

Dream Shoe...

Hiya!
I wouldn't usually write about the fruits of a latest shopping trip but, I actually found my dream shoe so I felt this warranted a new blog post... I've been waiting for AGESSS for these beauties to finally hit the shelves and was straight out to buy them as soon as they unleashed! I'm super excited about them and they are now my new fave pair of shoes...they're made up of all my favourite colours, plus they make me tall and they are the closest to the shoe of my dreams that I could ever imagine!!! Apologies for the contrived photos with my nice crochet blanket as the backdrop...
These gems are from New Look's latest collaboration with students from London College of Fashion and these particular corkers are designed by Ruth Jones... I LOVE them and wish I could get away with wearing them EVERY DAY...although I don't know how well they would go down in Tescos...
Even little Tango approves...bet he wishes he had a matching mini pair...

In other news I made the mistake of doing a spot of hand sewing outdoors today in the GLORIOUS sunshine....only an hour in and I was burnt to a crisp. Yes it hurts.

It's been a while...I've been all wrapped up on being back in the UK after my long globetrekking jaunts alongside a couple of projects I've been working on so I'm finally getting around to updating my blog!
So thought I would share a couple of images from a collaboration I worked on a while back... I teamed up with my good friend and awesome textile artist Petra Kraeutner of Pebelle for our collaboration with Finland based film production company, Kennel Helsinki.
We worked with photographer Wolfgang Steiner in producing a series of images which feature pieces from both my work and Pebelle's.

'My Friend the Mosquito'

Hiya!!!!
As I've been banging on about it....I can now finally unleash my latest pieces of work created as a result of my project in Taiwan. Over the past few months, whilst based in Taipei, I have been working on both research journals and a small collection of garments which come together to form my most recent series of work titled, 'My Friend the Mosquito'. Another purpose for locating myself in Taiwan for a while was to have the opportunity to work and collaborate with a new bunch of creative talents as well as get to grips with the art and design scene in a different city. This selection of images was the final stage of my mission in Taipei in which I joined forces with a local creative team on location at Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall, a major landmark within the city.

Before I stop droning on, this is the official speile about the collection in case you want to peruse...
'‘My Friend the Mosquito’ is an off season collection of works developed and designed in Taipei, Taiwan 2011 as part of Emma’s position as Resident Artist at ‘Dream Community:Culture & Education Development Foundation’. The series of pieces present a juxtaposition to Emma’s previous collection focusing on camouflage and disguise techniques used by insects. The garments embrace pattern formations influenced by the features of moths native to Taiwan translated into surface embellishment and appliqué in exaggerated, saturated hues using holographic features. Other themes are inspired by the translucency and iridescence of mosquitoes alongside the idea of storytelling and methods of the heart drawing upon the concept of transformation taken from the Taiwanese folk tale, ‘The Tigress Witch’.
The collection also features a garment influenced by the annual lantern festival, which is constructed out of paper, bamboo, plastic and cotton.'

Farewell Taiwan!!!

Hello Hello!!!!!
So last week I waved farewell to Taiwan after spending 3 months working on my project over there!!! I made it back to the UK in time for the AMAZING Royal Wedding and have been mainly sleeping off the exhaustion of recent events and doing 'British Things' since my return...by that I mean I have been doing stuff like eating beans on toast, cooking indoor BBQ's as a result of the rain, going to the beach, baking cakes and watching a whole lot of 'Jersey Shore' with my cat Tango! Then it's back to cracking on with my current projects as of the end of this glorious Bank Holiday weekend!

In a few days I will show you the results of my new series of work created in Taiwan so hold your horses for that....
In the mean time a quick round up of how my final few days in Taipei rolled....
There was plenty of scrumptious dinner dates and farewell extravaganzas in the mix....lots of last minute shopping and 'situations'...gossip sessions with Sharon and Ann, Oolong Tea ice cream, ordering too much food, packing dramas, laugh crashing by people who look like they should be on MTV....
On my final day in Taiwan Winnie, who I met during my project at 'Growth Lily', kindly took me to the 'Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines' as well as up into the beautiful mountains of Yangmingshan National Park for milk tea and strawberry waffles! Oohhh and as I was leaving I got the BEST PRESENT EVER from John and Yili, a lovely couple who live at Dream Community...A HELLO KITTY PANCAKE PAN?!!?!?!?!?AMAZZZZIING!!! I'm soooo excited to use it this week!!!

And now I come to the end of my exciting Taiwan chapter!!! Well....there's still my project to be unleashed but, no more tales of Asian antics and the likes....
Anyway....off for a bit of Earl Gray!!!

Hello Kitty Cafe!!!

Afternoon from Taipei!!!
This week has been by far my FAVOURITE week since I've been in Taiwan! It's been super busy, productive and sooo many fun times!!! Yesterday marked the final chapter of my project here and I was working with a local creative team, on location, shooting all of my new pieces! It was awesome to collaborate with a totally new bunch of talented people and I'll be posting updates and images all about that soon! Aside from that I've been squeezing in a tonne of exciting meetings in the last few days before I leave for the UK as well as drinking as much green tea milk as I can and doing a ridiculous amount of shopping! There's been lots of catching up with friends and seeing as much of the city as I can before I wave farewell to the island!

A few nights ago I finally got to do something I've been waiting to do FOREVER! We went to the Hello Kitty Cafe!!!! This gem is in Xhongxiao Fuxing in Taipei and is called 'Hello Kitty Sweets'!!! It was the best place I have ever been and I totally want to live in there! Everything was Kitty themed with rhinestones and sparkles everywhere and AMAZING cake!!! We went there for dinner so also saw some savoury action... they don't have an English menu in the cafe but, they have staff who could tell me what they could do for a vegetarian option! I ended up with some juicy pizza which I was happy about as my cravings for Western food are at the pinnacle right now!!Yayyy!

Obviously we had to sample some of the special Hello Kitty cakes which was the hardest decision ever because they ALL looked amazing and ludicrously cute!!!

The shop front is impressive....total Kitty Land....clearly I would have preferred to have taken a nice photo without the piles of garbage bags and the annoying car blocking the view...but you get the idea!!!

And now I own a special Hello Kitty toast cutter that I discovered in the SOGO Department store nearby...it goes without saying that from now on I will be making kitty toast for breakfast EVERY DAY!!!!
And that's the run down of the past few days!!! I only have a few days left here in Asia which I plan on being action packed and I'll be posting images from the shoot and my new work ASAP!!!

Day Tripping it up to Maokong!

Good Afternoon...
The joys of yesterday warranted a post of their own...Sunday started off with a bit of drama in that for some reason my alarm failed to go off and I totally slept in...eek! Me and my friend Ann waded up into the hills to spend the day in beautiful Maokong...it was such a treat! The downside was it rained like a bitch allll day.....but we took the special 'crystal cabin' gondola into the mountains which had a glass floor and that was pretty awesome!

It was all misty and magical the whole place smells of tea as it's growing up there! We went to Zhengda Teahouse for the most GOURMET lunch EVER! Rice with tea leaves, sweet potatoes, tofu...EVERYTHING!!!They had a bunch of vegetarian stuff which was amazing! Then we went onto the cutest cafe for Afternoon Tea....glorious cake and matcha latte...I was so happy! Anyway...here's some photos from the day trip of dreams!!!

Burger Situations and other Tales...

Good Evening from Taiwan!
So things have been all over the place this past week or so! I'm frantically preparing for the final leg of my project which will take place later this week and also I've been wrapping up the last of all my workshops etc... I can't believe I've been here in Taiwan almost 3 months now and soon I will be whipping off to yonder UK so with so little time I've been trying to squeeze in all I can of Taipei!
The past week has been particularly eventful... alongside some late night sewing sessions and playing the new Britney album on repeat there have also been scenarios which include; 'The Burger Situation', a venture into Taipei's nightlife, the mysterious case of the loaf of bread, an annoying game of 'Space Invaders', Night Market shopping trips and an excursion to the National Palace Museum to see the Chagall exhibition.
I also spotted a BEAST of a Mukade which gave me flashbacks to the Japan days and today I saw a worm so big I thought it was a snake... I found a few soldiers lurking around Chiang Kai Shek which I loved and also I purchased a hot new ring and some amazing Barbie pink shoes in the market...additionally I'm being eaten alive by mosquitoes.
That's the news....so now I'm prepping for my project with a local creative team that will kick off in a few days time and hoping to fit in as many theme restaurants as possible before I say farewell to Asia once again.... Some photos below 'innit....

Pai Yun Elementary School...

Hiya!!!
Earlier this week I was teaching part of my current Samba Band workshop group at Pai Yun Elementary School. After the parents worked on cutting out the pattern pieces and started sewing up the outfits, their kids are now working on the details which includes plastic flowers and sparkly petals! So I was hanging out at the school...the hallways reminded me of 'Heartbreak High' only without Drazic and the crew.... Drazic was such a dude... Anyway that's what has been happening....here's some photos...

Craft Shopping in Taipei!

Happy 'Tomb Sweeping Day' from Taipei!
This past few days has been a public holiday here in Taiwan so the city was super crowded yesterday and alongside getting heckled by the same annoying teenage boy that targets me EVERY week in life...it was raining soooo much!
Yesterday I went on a craft supply hunting mission.... the Yanping Road area close to Taipei Main Station is like a dream come true in terms of jewels, sequins, necessities and sparkles! (If you are the lookout for this street, come out of exit 21 of the Taipei City Underground Mall and it's right there!)

I totally LOVE this area and it makes me wish I had a bigger luggage allowance for when I'm flying back to the UK!!! There's a whole bunch of shops selling sewing equipment alongside a load of suppliers....it's amazing! There's also one place that sells random keyrings, lucky charms, beads and the likes which I ended up buying a million things from that I plan to take apart and turn into some hot accessories when I get back!
Not too many snaps this time around I'm afraid as no way was I whipping the camera out in these sick weather conditions!!!!

Website Revamp and Latest Press...

Hello from the Tropics...
Oohhh iya...Just a brief one... maybe you already spotted it.... but, my website
www.emma-bell.com has been going through a gradual re-design and now has a bunch of new sections and is all updated with recent projects and press etc! The awesome Will Adams did a GLORIOUS job creating it!!!! He's a London based digital illustrator and designer, you should check out his scrumptious wares: www.willdotadams.co.uk.

Growth Lily Kindergarten...

Good Afternoon from Taiwan!!!
Just a quick update of what I've been up to this past week! The past few days I've been working on a community based project with the children at a local kindergarten called 'Growth Lily'.
It was a whole new ball game for me! We made some masks and got pom poms and sparkles, tinsel and feathers all over! Here's a few photos of the school and what we were doing!!!

This afternoon I attempted to get all rustic and walk the scenic route back to the studio instead of getting a ride.... This started off ok and I minced through a load of trees down a hill and past a lake...then I got freaked out by the nature when I heard crinkling in the bushes and worried that a snake would come creeping out...so I pegged it through the "wilderness" (more like a road with a few trees and stuff)....

Pizza Night and Invisible Cats!

Good Evening from Taipei!
It's actually been warm and sunny for once...tropical all round!!!
This past week has seen the start of a new series of workshops I'm doing in collaboration with a local school....been designing some outfits for the Samba band and working with a group of the parents to make 22 costumes!
I spent yesterday in the city with a couple of the girls I've met here, Alpchris and Danielle! We went to check out the art shops in Guting which sold sooo many gourmet materials before heading to Huashan 1914 Creative Park . LOVED the park... it's basically an arts centre run from an old abandoned factory where they have a bunch of events, galleries, boutiques, performances and restaurants. We went for dinner at 'Alleycats' in Huashan and ate so much GLORIOUS Pizza....we also almost sat on a sneaky little cat that was camouflaged into the chair! When we moved tables...we took the cat with us to joining in on the dinner fandangos! Wahhh then imagine my delight when a Hello Kitty Polaroid camera was unleashed?!!?!?!?I totally want one!!!!

Going British in Taipei and Glorious Burgers!

Good Evening from Taipei!!!!
So yesterday I took a day away from the studio which was fun as I had a special agenda planned! In the morning I had a few bits and pieces of work to do with a couple of super exciting side projects that I'm working on whilst here in Taipei!Then it was onto hitting up some shopping action in Ximending (which is one of my favourite areas here!)...It was dark so there was neon overload which made me happy and there's so many awesome shops there! It's like Taipei's answer to a mini Harajuku! The evening was especially exciting as I met a friend for dinner...but not just any dinner...a special one.... I've been having mega food cravings so I've been counting down the days to pay the British Pub a visit!!!! We went to 'ON TAP' in the Zhongxiao Dunhua area and I had one of the best veggie burgers OF MY LIFE!!! Veggie walnut burger with Heinz ketchup...this made me so happy! This place serves cider and allsorts...even a bit of quiche!! LOVED IT! Of course we then branched out to a little place up the road for some GLORIOUS ice cream puffs for dessert!

The other day during a return trip back to the amazing fabric market we stumbled upon an exhibition which was literally over the road from the market... Now I don't know the full info as none of the literature they were handing out was in English...but it was a bunch of Architecture students from a local university showing different ways of changing a building's appearance...or something to that effect. It was pretty cool and they had decked the place out with a load of crochet and the likes....also inside was a showcase of conceptual chairs and a few digital features....it was hottt...as I said that's all the info I have on that....so answers on a postcard if you happen to know the full story!!!

Memorial Halls and Foreign Medication!

Ooh hiya!
To be honest there is not a great deal of gossip this week as the past few days I have been battling feeling horrendously ill. Also, I can't stop thinking about the awful situation going on in Japan right now. I really can't believe the tragic footage from this disaster, incredibly sad. I was relieved that my friends in Japan have remained safe at this time but, it's just frightening to watch it all unfold. At one point Taiwan was put on Tsunami Alert and I'll admit I was totally panicked, likewise when I started reading about potential radiation threats here. So yes, let's just say it's a bit too close for comfort being so near. But please take the time to go and donate to the Red Cross Tsunami Appeal, it only takes a couple of minutes to help our friends in Japan: CLICK HERE!!!
As for being ill... nothing worse than being sick in a foreign country, all I wanted was my nice, patchwork blankets, Heinz tomato soup and lots of Channel 4. One highlight of the illness was the weird trip to the Taiwanese pharmacy.... they ended up giving me a huge amount of random pills, which to be honest haven't even worked apart from giving me crazy dreams and nightmares including being in a rockband, The Great Fire of London and getting tattoos of orange circles!
Anyway, earlier this week I took myself off on a research trip which was fun. I managed to pick up a few awesome bits and pieces from a great craft store called 'Bear Mama DIY' which can be found near to Taipei Main Station. They had a whole bunch of great stuff... and my luggage is likely to be close to bursting when I leave! The jewel and sparkle situation was super hot and I'll be excited to put some of the delights I purchased into good use upon my return to the UK!
In other news I went to check out the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall and the 'Emerald Lake' and I was happy that it hit 25 degrees as it's been pretty chilly recently!
The evening saw a yummy veggie/gossip dinner with a graphic designer called Ann, here in Taipei who I had randomly met via a girl from high school! Small world! Now I'm back onto designing some pieces for an upcoming project, so full steam ahead and all!

The Super Slushy of Taipei...

Good Afternoon from rainy Taiwan!
Pretty sparse on the updates as I'm currently cracking on with making 2 new pieces so right now it's hardcore sessions with a bit of J-Pop and Lady Gaga in the studio!
On Monday however I took a day off to attend to the realms of the city! Bit of a whistlestop itinerary as I had to tend to a greatly anticipated sleep-in and a laundry mission! Then it was onto a couple of exciting meetings in town with some awesome creatives that I look forward to collaborating with followed by a chilly stint writing my journal in the 228 Peace Park. The park has a memorial to the victims of the 228 Massacre in the form of a spire and cubes alongside the Memorial Museum and the National Taiwan Museum.

Next stop was LUNCHTIME at my favourite veggie place... 'Minder Vegetarian' which has a Taiwanese buffet of abundance as well as a regular menu with things like "Vegetarian Bacon Pizza" and the likes!
I was then hotfooting it back East to the Taipei City Hall area to check out a couple of places as well as indulge in a bit of social time! I've talked about my praise for the ' Couchsurfing' network before but, I always need to bring it up because I think it's amazing! In the evening I met up with a lovely fellow artist I'd met via Couchsurfing and we hit up a German beer cellar in the Eslite building. The place is called Le Blé d’Or and it made me feel like I was back in Austria! Staff were rocking super-cute Lederhosen with multi-coloured embroidery and hats with feathers! The whole place is decked out in true Bavarian style complete with beer barrel chairs and weird ales! As we know I LOVE a Slushy and I have possibly found the World's biggest one....Guinness and raspberry...it was so big I had major brain freeze and could only finish half of it!
The Eslite building has become one of my favourite places here in Taipei....it has a really great International magazine department with pretty much every fashion mag I could think of... the art and design book floor is AMAZING...there's a tonne of really cool boutiques in there as well as cafe's and stuff so it's quite a crowd puller and it's fun to hang out there!

Anyway that's pretty much what has gone down in the past week...so there's a few photos... I'm still getting to grips when it comes to using this fancy camera in the nighttime... and I seem to have captured a couple of mystical orbs on a shot of the Taipei 101 building.... I like to think it's some sort of paranormal activity even though it's clearly a photo taking mishap!
Oooh one last thing before I return to my sequins...here is a feature of my work in Zona de Obras Magazine (Spain) from a while back which, I'm finally getting round to posting!

Fabric Market A-GO-GO!

Hello from rainy Taiwan!
The past few days have been pretty busy preparing for my next upcoming project here at the Dream Community, also I've sewn so many sequins my eyes have gone weird!
Anyway, today saw an exciting variation from the studio as I went fabric shopping! My coordinator here at the project, Mandy, took me to the big fabric house of dreams also known as 'Yong-le ShihChang' on Dihua Street in central Taipei. It was super awesome...so many amazing materials and trimmings! The only bit I didn't like was walking through the ground floor before going upstairs to the fabric bit, because that was the butcher's section and I clocked a bit of blood by the door and I could smell meat...ewww
But anyway...it was so much fun to go and see what they had and I picked up some juicy bits and pieces ready to start working with! I mean much as I love Shepherds Bush...these fabric places around Asia take some beating! There was a whole load of bizarre prints...an abundance of super hot quilted fabrics....sparkles galore and a bunch of randomly patterned faux-fur!
So the verdict is that fabric shopping in Taipei is pretty amazing!

End of Workshops and Showtime!

Hello!!!
Sunday saw the grand finale of the results of the two week long fashion and textile workshops that I have been directing here in Taiwan at the Dream Community. All in all there were about 33 people who participated in making 'wearable lanterns' and the finished pieces looked awesome! People put a load of hard work and energy into their outfits and it was great to work with a bunch of people who were so enthusiastic! The end of the workshops was marked with a catwalk show opened by a samba drum group here in the Dream Community terrace. There was also prizes up for grabs so there was a few shapes thrown on the catwalk as well as stiltwalkers!

Made in Taiwan!

Hello from Taiwan!
So since finishing the first set of workshops I've been cracking on with a bit of research and seeing what Taipei is all about which has been sooo much fun! I think I've mastered the public transport system...although all these bus routes are kind of tricky! Anyway...I've been all over the place...from a zillion temples, to an awesome shopping plaza totally dedicated to Japanese fashion, some really cool backstreet shops that sell a whole load of shiny, gold, religious stuff... and eaten allsorts of yummy veggie stuff from taro pizza to potato salad with multi-coloured cake sprinkles on, blue sushi, a billion varieties of tofu, crab apples on a stick and 20p sweet potato ice cream!!! I also went to Danshui which is north of the city and I can only describe it as a mix between Blackpool and Donau-Insel...loads of shops selling inflatable Spongebob Squarepants, toffee apples, boats, a bit of a promenade and a bit of happy hardcore churning out of the numerous games arcades! That was pretty awesome and there was a really weird shop selling sick but hot cat handbags...and then a man got his bike entangled in my bag and killed the pinnacle shopping moment as I wasn't impressed!
Anyway, I took a million pictures...so here are a select few!!!

Notion 50th Issue!!!

Yo Yo Yo from Taiwan....
So after a totally juicy day off spent temple hopping, lantern spying and avoiding weirdos after wandering into a dubious area I was excited when I got back to the studio tonight to see the new, extra special 50th issue of Notion Magazine ready for action on it's online portal! The spectacular Aaron Francis Walker wrote a glorious piece all about my recent 'Colourful Creatures are often Poisonous' collection. It features the images taken as part of my collaboration in Tokyo with photographer Yuji Watanabe during my artist residency at the Mino Paper Art Village Project! Wahhh I love this piece and I'm loving the 50th issue complete with Jessie J on the cover and allsorts of magical content! Thankssss dudes!!!!
In other news I had pre-packed HELLO KITTY jam sandwiches for lunch....best thing EVER!!!
Anyway I'm looking forward to seeing the magazine in all it's printed, glossy glory when I get back to the UK... (my non existent Chinese lingo doesn't branch far enough to find a special magazine shop in Taiwan...) But anyway...go and buy it....or if you can also check out page 20-21 on the online edition HERE!!!

Workshops Akimbo and Branching Out...

Hiya from Taiwan!
So It's been a super intense past couple of weeks since I arrived in Taiwan....There was a whole load of prep work and deadlines prior to the fashion workshops kicking off and now we are working towards the end of the project and the catwalk presentation this coming weekend.
The theme of my workshops was to tie in with the upcoming lantern festival here in Taiwan so everyone is working on 'wearable lanterns'. I'm working with around 10 different groups ranging from a local storytelling collective, to Dream Community staff and residents here at the complex. The attendees have a whole bunch of themes going on including Egyptians, Year of the Rabbit, Alice in Wonderland, Strawberry Season, Recycling and of course Lady Gaga!
I've been putting some mammoth hours in at the studio and I've been riding out being ill for the past week so not too much juicy gossip...but a couple of days ago I got to make my first venture out sightseeing...so here are some pictures from my grand day out... Bit of a whistlestop tour as it was pissing it down with rain and exhaustion was totally kicking in...but I hit up the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall, the Ximending area (which was AWESOME!), the mega tall 101 Building...a bunch of temples... Taipei City Hall....tra la la...

So there you have it...that's what has been rolling this past couple of weeks here in Taiwan!!!

Hello from 'Dream Community' Taiwan!

Oooh Hiya....from Taiwan!!!
So I touched down in Taipei last Friday....I LOVE IT!!!! I arrived at the 'Dream Community' which is a Culture and Education Development Foundation where I will be based in my studio working on a string of projects for a while! I'm living in an apartment onsite, just seconds away from the studio and there's a whole bunch of stuff on the complex; cafe, bakery, theatre, exhibition space, garden terrace, workshops...a goat!!! So it's a really awesome place to be located at for a while and to create some new pieces! The foundation runs a whole programme of events from carnival parades, samba drum extravaganzas, lantern festival stuff, community orientated workshops and events....basically a load of fun and colourful stuff!
The first leg of my project kicks off at the weekend with a stint of fashion and textile workshops that I will be directing which, I'm super excited about! We have a bunch of proper sparkly fabrics at the ready and I'll be guiding a few different groups of people in designing and making various stage costumes and outfits!
Anyway...here are a couple of pictures of my new workspace....you will see it comes with a crew in Brazilian carnival attire to keep me company...AMAZINGGGG!!! Oh and this green monster thing that looks me right in the eye while I'm sewing and stuff! I've been a bit slow on the photo front as I haven't branched too far yet...just shopping of course!

Ciao 2010, Hello Next Adventure!

Ooh hiya!
I intended to churn out some kind of round-up and Happy New Year speile when it was actually new year...not when it's nearing the end of January...but anywayzzz...
Can't believe how fast this past year has zipped by...I also can't believe that I have spent the most of it overseas with only the odd week here and there to indulge in home stuff like Hollyoaks, beans on toast and veggie lasagne!
2010 for me was quite different compared to the normal shizz I've been up to this past few years...for one I wasn't in London and secondly I've worked on a series of projects opposed to my seasonal Fashion Week shows...
At the start of the year I had the pleasure of working with my chum and magical stylist Alexis Knox on a whole bunch of stuff....we saw it all from climbing up ladders at music video shoots...to creeping around filming in spooky, old pubs! Fun times! We also whipped over to Copenhagen to cover fashion week for Notion Magazine...that was a cheap laugh too!
A huge chunk of the year was spent working on curating and directing the 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' exhibition that was hosted over in Vienna with the lovely Polona Dolzan. Such a fun project to work on and great to have so many talented people on board...and just to mention it one more time...WE GOT JUST UNDER 30,000 VISITORS!!!WEEEEEEEEE!
It was awesome to be based in Central Europe for a while and to create my SS11 collection alongside a load of curly palaces, schnitzels and lederhosens!
I was sad to say farewell to Vienna after so long but, excited as the next delight was 3 months working over in Japan....which I've already gone on about a lot recently....so I'll pipe down!
One of the things I've loved most this past year was to work in totally different surroundings and have the opportunity to work with a lot of new people...it's been a fun one!
Was lovely to come back to the UK over the Christmas and have a nice long kip...and FINALLY my luggage turned up so now I have a ridiculous amount of trinkets and treats that I brought back from Japan!
Right now I'm preparing to head of on my next adventure as next week I'll be whizzing off to Taipei to start on my next project...I'm going to be based in Taiwan for the next few months as Artist in Residence and imagine my delight when I found out they have a temple made of shells and a Hello Kitty Maternity hospital! So I'll be updating on that once I'm there!
Ooh also got an exciting parcel this morning...the catalogues from the 'Let Momo Eat Cake' exhibition arrived! Exciting stuff! You can see a picture of them above alongside a recent feature of the new collection!
Right, I'm off to make lunch and then get crafty with some dyeing!

'Let Momo Eat Cake'

Happy New Year and all that!
Thought I would share some pictures from the exhibition that is currently displaying my new pieces that I created whilst in Japan. The exhibition is called 'Let Momo Eat Cake' and also showcases the work of my fellow artists in residence, Yoko Iwanaga, Kristen Plucar and Lena Bui. The presentation opened last month and will run until 10th January at the Mino Washi Museum in Gifu Prefecture.

The opening of 'Let Momo Eat Cake' marked both the end of my project as well as my departure from beautiful Japan. So alongside the gallery launch I also had the task of clearing out my studio, which had pretty much become my second home throughout the past 3 months as a result of the ludicrous amount of hours I spent in there!

It's been awesome working from the studio of dreamsss...we have seen plenty of action...from cake stealing dogs, poisonous centipedes, buns for lunch, late night disco times, juggling ball extravaganzas and plenty of intense gossip sessions! It was so much fun working alongside the girls and I learned to do random stuff like build a lantern and fill up a heater with kerosine....hardcore life skillzzz 'innit??? It was amazing to be able to base myself in Japan for a few months and take advantage of all the opportunities to carry out a load of new research, work with different people and of course experiment with some alternative materials.
It was also great to be able to branch out and take a few trips so I got to see and shop in more places in Japan!
I spent my birthday working in Tokyo on the shoot of my final pieces of work and it was so much fun to work with a whole new bunch of people in a totally different environment...team Tokyo totally rules and I would like to say MEGA THANKS to the crew that helped in creating the images; Yuji, Nao, Chika and Olga!!!

The Tokyo trip in itself is a whole other blog post...so hold your horses for that one!
It was 5 years since my last trip to Japan and I left this time loving it even more! I came back to the UK for Christmas with a ridiculous amount of luggage as a result of all the amazing bits and pieces I picked up over there...however I'm yet to see any of it as my baggage is MIA somewhere in Paris which totally sucks ass as I want to wear my Kimono and use my new cute baking tins!
So I was sad to leave Japan and I will miss things like the 100 yen stores, amazing shopping, grape Fanta, sachets of Matcha latte, awesome magazines, huge tofu sections in supermarkets, super hot boys, appliances that play music and heated toilet seats....however I will certainly not miss the wildlife and I will maintain my fear of nature...that includes snakes, spiders, bears and wild boars!!!

' Colourful Creatures are often Poisonous...'

Hello Hello!!!
So amongst the festivities and all I thought I would also show you the outcome of the off-season collection of showpieces that I have been working on for the past 3 months in the studio in Japan! As you know I've been creating a new series of works based around the idea of combining the traditional qualities of paper with more current materials.
The final chapter of my dream time spent in Japan working as Artist in Residence, as part of the Mino Paper Art Village Project, culminated in a collaborative photoshoot with an awesome team in Tokyo.

Here's the official spiele about my new work...
'The concept behind 'Colourful Creatures are often Poisonous...' was to utilise Mino Washi in terms of a collaboration between traditional and contemporary materials. My ethos was to combine locally produced paper with unconventional fabrics, techniques and silhouettes to generate an overall collection of garments that represent a fusion of established craft and experimental fashion and textile design.
Mino washi is featured in each piece of the collection and combined materials include polypropylene , vintage kimono fabric, latex, PVC, lurex and metal trimmings. Inclusive techniques involve print, embroidery, crochet, knit, hand embellishment and weaving.
Mino City acted as a muse for my works and prior research. Influences included landscape tones and form in which I translated mountains into colourful geometric layered shapes and used saturated hues derived from my environments and surroundings in Mino. Experiences with the local wildlife encouraged an exploration of various protection techniques used by animals and humans. Still in Japan....!!!

Hello from Japan!
I have been 100% rubbish in updating my blog over this past couple of months....I've been locked away in the studio around the clock working on my new pieces which will be unleashing tomorrow at the opening of the exhibition!
I can't believe I have been here for 3 months now and in a few days I will wave sayonara to Japan and whizz off to the UK just in time for Christmas!
For most of the time it's been work akimbo here in the studio in Mino however, a couple of weeks ago I took a few days break to Osaka and Kyoto! That was mucho fun and even the novelty of lying in bed, watching Columbo and eating ice lollies was GLORIOUSSS as I was mega mega exhausted!
Last week I was working up in Tokyo! All of my new pieces for my off-season collection were hauled up there and I got to work with an awesome team in creating a series of images of my latest work which, will also be exhibited in the museum alongside the garments. There was also some time for plenty of shopping, sightseeing and general fun timezzzz!

I'll be whipping out the images of the exhibition, which is titled, 'Let Momo Eat Cake' alongside the photoshoot in the next few days once launches/farewell parties/ flights of doom/packing and sleeping are all out the way...I'll slip out further tales of Japan times and photos too...FO SHO.

Rocking Around Japan and Making Paper Stuff!!!

Helloooo!!!
I've been embroiled in lots of paper action, hence me taking forever to update on the goings on and gossip!
Post Akari Art Exhibition in which, my mystical unicorn made it's debut, I've been cracking on with my new pieces of work which will be exhibited here in Japan as of December! It's been busy times in the studio working on my latest shizzz and it's all fun! Really loving being able to work with so many new materials and produce something really different...of course there's still glitter involved!
In between rocking out my project, I've also been getting up to all sorts from a couple of papermaking workshops, a lantern making sesh and helping churn out a cheeky catwalk at a local school! It's all fun and games!!!
There's also been a couple of adventures in the mix...we went on a mission to another town in Japan called Shirakawago which was amazing and also I hit up the Aichi Triennale 2010 to check out some of the art currently displayed in the festival that's spread right across Nagoya! I fell in love with the work of Pip and Pop, a duo from Australia...seriously the stuff dreams are made of!!!Of course trips to Nagoya also meant I got to do some shopping!!!

Akari Art Lantern Festival, Wild Boars and Other Stuff!

Hello from Japan!
So it's been a super busy couple of weeks settling into my new residency here in Japan! Been up to all sorts from parties to paper making workshops and the main bit of action has been working towards the deadline for the upcoming annual Akari Art Lantern Festival in Mino City. I've been working on my piece since I arrived and my lantern is a unicorn that also doubles up as some type of headgear! There's the photos above! The exhibition opens tomorrow and I'm sooo excited!
My piece is titled 'Cornelius the Unicorn of Dreams'....not quite sure how that translates in Japanese and it's made mainly from Mino Washi alongside other stuff including rhinestones, wool, bamboo and metal!It's kind of ridiculous and I'm trying to think of how I can transport this beast back to England when I return!
Papermaking was really awesome as we got to hang out at the Mino Washi Museum for a few days learning the skillzzz...really fun...this is how it rolled:

Now that my piece for the lantern exhibition is wrapped up I'm starting working on my new project which involves making a series of garments from textiles created out of paper...so it's been latex, knitting, weaving and sampling galore this week!!
Ok...so here are a few choice photos of what's been going down!

I've taken about a million photos so far...it's a really amazing town! I'm getting to grips with the nature thing...although tonight I had a close encounter with a wild boar which was the worst experience of my whole life as it was like 2 metres away and growled at me....thought I was going to die!

Mino, Japan: Artist in Residence!

Konnichiwa from Japan!
Now that the jet-lag has vanished and I'm more settled in...here is the lowdown on my current project which sees me living and working in Japan for the next 3 months!
So a while ago my proposal was selected by the committee at the Mino Paper Art Village Project in Japan and I was invited to Mino City alongside 3 other International Artists to participate in their Artist in Residence programme. The city has a history of traditional Japanese Washi (paper) making that has been rocking around for 1,300 years and the concept of the project is to maintain it's paper making heritage as well as fuse it into contemporary art and design.
Part of the experience is that you live with a host family throughout the duration and I have been lucky enough to be placed with the lovely Takahashi's at the amazing Buddhist temple that they run! So I have a lovely living space and that's my room above! Total change for me as I'm scared of nature and I'm so used to living in big cities!
It's been super busy since arriving as they had an action packed schedule of meetings, parties and all sorts planned for the new artists! We got to meet the Mayor of the city as well as attend our 'Welcome Party' which involved us parading around playing instruments whilst wearing a Peruvian poncho?!

Today we moved into the studio where we will be working for the next few months...that is my space above!Love it! It's right in the middle of the old streets with paper walls and all, so there's lots of nice shops and stuff going on around us!

It's full steam ahead now and I am so excited to get started on my project which involves transforming Mino Washi into textiles that will then be used for a collective of paper garments which will be exhibited here in Japan in a few months time! Today I started playing around with the paper and even discovered that they make washable paper socks here...crazy!
So that's the basic lowdown! Lots more to come!

Hello Hello!!!
Lots to update on...I'm in Japan right now...But I shall give you a full rundown of the last couple of weeks beforehand!
So the first big bit of news was that we finally closed the doors on 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' after receiving a record number of almost 30,000 visitors! So happy that it has had such an awesome response and it's been a great project to work on over the past 9 months!
After spending the majority of the past year in Vienna, including my residency, I have said farewell to Whirlers and after packing up the exhibition, I ventured back to England for a few days!
Throughtout working on Fish and Chips, I have also been developing my condensed showcase collection/SS11 which features my commissioned prints as part of the exhibition. This season I presented a selection of the pieces statically in the gallery and the images above are of my most recent lookbook shoot, that I worked on with photographer Wolfgang Steiner.
So in the space of a week I waved goodbye to Vienna and the action packed chapter that was 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' and found myself in Japan. I was recently awarded a position as Artist in Residence as part of the Mino Paper Art Village Project who have invited me to live and work here for the next 3 months. I only arrived yesterday after an epic 30 hour long journey which involved pretty much every mode of transport that you can imagine! So right now I'm settling in and attending to the action packed schedule that is planned...but I will save the full story for tomorrow!

Clothes Show and Updates!!!

Helloooooo from Viennese Whirls!!!
So once again I've been totally hopeless at updating my blog...the reality is...my Fish and Chips project has taken over my life and pretty much consumes my every waking moment!!!In exciting news...in the exhibition has been open for 10 weeks so far and we have racked up an almighty 22,000 visitors!! Epic! So I'm super happy about that and it's nice to see after so many months of hard work such a positive response! Alongside working on the exhibition I have been working on additional items of my special showcase collection which replaces my seasonal collections this year, so watch this space for when I unleash those as right now it's sewing central in my studio!
Alongside the exhibition the programme has seen allsorts of exciting features including kids workshops with JEF that I hosted alongside a bunch of great talks, discussions and New Designer Showcases!
I've also been making the most of being based in Central Europe at current so I have cracked out the backpack and trotted off on a few travels with the journal to hand! Berlin...Poland...Budapest...there's been many a story and plenty of drama!
One of the recent bits and pieces that I was involved in recently outside of Fish and Chip World saw my work being featured in the 'Clothes Show London' catwalk shows last month....
Superstar stylist Alexis Knox embraced with panache the mammoth task of styling the entire mainstage show at London's Clothes Show at Earls Court produced by The Doll agency..a 3 day extravaganza featuring 7 daily shows and 280 outfits! Looked awesome and I was so pleased that my pieces could get in the mix!!! Ch ch checkkk out the pictures 'innit! Great job Knoxy!

So that's the basic speile of what has been going down! There's a couple of really exciting projects in the mix...one of which sees me moving to Japan in a few weeks time to spend a few glorious months living and working there...but that warrants a post of it's own so I shall savour that for next time!

Back from Missing in Action!

Hello Hello!
So I'm back in the land of the living having been M.I.A this past month or so what with work commitments and allsorts taking over my life! After 6 months of mega intense work, my current project, 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' saw it's big, grand launch last month! Finally the doors opened of the exhibition that I have been curating and it all kicked off with a super busy private view followed by an afterparty! Loads of the crew jetted in from London for the occasion and it was awesome to finally see the exhibition up and running in all it's glory! In just 3 weeks of it being open it has already racked up almost 5000 visitors which is great!
It's getting some awesome press and some great feedback so I'm really happy!!wooo!
Above are a couple of images of some of the looks that I created especially for my special showcase collection for the exhibition! They were shot as part of a shoot by our contributor Thom Will. Also up there is an illustration of my work by Laura Bell that I LOVE LOVE LOVE!

Ooohh iyya!
So it's been Fish and Chips central, over here in Vienna preparing for the big grand opening next month! Eeekers! It's getting closer! On top of the whole exhibition jazz, there have also been a couple of exciting photoshoots we have been working on over here!
My brand new print design whipped out for some action...you can get a cheeky preview of it in some of the 'behind the scenes' shots from our 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' shoot at the weekend...I did the print graphics especially for the exhibition...so themed to the max...but, watch this space and I'll give the full lowdown on it soon!

At the top there you can also see a few more shots of when awesome band, Fan Death, took my stuff with them on their European tour!!YAYY! LOVE THEM!!!

ooooh AND... the awesome Audrey Kitching, recently blogged about me!!YAYYY!love that!Thanksss! I'm hoping we end up in the same country as eachother at some point so that we can FINALLY work together! You can read the full thing HERE!!

A couple of random updates from recent happenings....so a couple of months back one of my pieces from my SS10 collection as part of my collaboration with Pebelle, went on a little holiday to Berlin to star in Deine Jugend's new music video. The film is directed by Katja Hentschel and styled by Alexis Knox....you can ch ch check it out....

Just some stuff....

Greetings from Whirlers!!!
Just a quick one as it's sunny outside and I'm due to go and make a mission for cider and cheddar...not always easy as these things aren't the Austrian norm....so it's off to the Bobby's British shop!!!
In the meantime....some of my knitwear featuring my 'Buffet' print design and a couple of my bags that I did as part of my 'Emma Bell for Irregular Choice' collections are currently available on the Irregular Choice website....so you can check them out HERE and buy online!!!

Earlier this week I went to see the Modekolleg Herbststraße grad show at Pratersauna...and the rest of the week has been all about meeting up with all of our exhibition's partners and sponsors...so busy week...! I've also been embroidering and rhinestoning-up all week so I have a million holes in my fingers which is never a great look when I then attempt to dye my hair...so now I have turquoise dots on my fingers!!!!

So I've been banging on about the exhibition of dreams for quite some time now....so I'm going to whack out the deal right here.....

'Contemporary fashion exhibition presenting the UK as a hub for international design talent.

The exhibition is directed and curated by British fashion designer, Emma Bell, and curator Polona Dolzan. Presenting the industry's most forward thinking creatives including designers; Louise Gray, Charlie Le Mindu, Scott Ramsay Kyle, Piers Atkinson, Dashing Tweeds, Louise Amstrup, Cooperative Designs, Nicholas Kirkwood and Craig Lawrence.

Charli XCX and Lost in the Countryside....

Ooooh hiya!
It's been a busy week in Whirlers Central including getting lost in the countryside, supermarket scrums and working on the quickly approaching exhibition!!!
So, Charli XCX recently wore my stuff from SS10 for her performance at the Bestival Launch party alongside Alex Metric...she also rocked it for her shoot with Action Aid...exciting times! Charli is a singer/songwriter from the UK who started whacking out the tunes at only 14 and to date has had airplay on Radio 1, been shot by David Bailey for British Vogue as well as posed for Rankin!!!

Yesterday me and my friend Cara...(who also writes a juicy blog and is obsessed with Lady Gaga...www.caravision.com ) decided to brave the Central European train network of doom to make the out of town visit to the HUGGGE fabric warehouse....the same scenario also happened last time I attempted to get here and we ended up taking the wrong train...we found ourselves on some random non-stop train to some Austrian town a million miles away and the train conductor was not impressed with our antics. The venture however was totally worth the drama and I bought so many fabrics that I nearly broke my arms....in amongst all the gourmet fabrics they also sell a whole load of shit...imagine my delight when I found a pack of 6 totally sick novelty Easter candles for only 1 Euro?! There were gross ornaments and allsorts being whipped in my trolley!

Ok so I will leave you a shot of Prater funfair...which is my favourite place in Vienna and houses the most awesome beer garden in the world....and a rainy shot of the vicinity!!!!

A Hundred Lovers and Whirlers Round Two!!!

Guten Tag and Happy Easter AKA Frohe Ostern!!!
Last week I trotted back to Vienna to base myself within my new studio where I shall be working from for the next 6 months!wooo! My arrival didn't go as planned....I had a weird feeling something was going to go wrong and sure enough...ALL of my luggage went AWOL en route to Austria! I couldn't believe it, I thought I was going to be sick...I was most concerned that a) all of my work equipment was in there and b)my make-up was also MIA....I had to haggle for a complimentary pack which, contained a T-shirt, toothbrush etc...Luckily my bags eventually turned up the next day...but it was a day of doom!
So anyway, first thought I would whack out Diesel's 'A Hundred Lovers' video featuring the new single from Josep Xorto...a few weeks ago I mentioned I was working in the wardrobe department for the interactive film that was accompanying their 'BE STUPID' campaign alongside Alexis who was styling the whole extravaganza...

It rolled like this.....

That's the round up to that chapter of delights!
And here I am, back in Vienna AKA Whirlers...woooeee!!! The past 3 months I have been working on a big project in which I am currently creative director of a contemporary fashion exhibition which will open in the Freiraum International Gallery in the Museums Quartier in June. The exhibition will feature an array of juicy designers based in the UK as well as talent from complimenting fields including; illustration, photography, fashion film, animation, styling and technical craft! So right now it's full stream ahead working on this exciting avenue alongside curator Polona Dolzan ...fun times ahead! Alongside this, the exhibition will feature my special showcase collection so there is plenty of sewing, bejewelling, dyeing, knitting and co going on 24/7 in the studio of dreams!!!

The past few days have been pretty consumed with work and settling in etc...so I don't have any spectacular photos of princess palaces and the likes....however...my excitement over foreign supermarkets never grows old...so here are some pictures of the contents of my fridge and stuff....

Pineapples, Fan Death and Austrian Re-Run...

Ok...so I have been incredibly slow with the old updates this past couple of weeks...I have been consumed with all things work...so I'm going to give just a couple of random-a-rama bits of news...then I'll return with the full version of events!!!
So first exciting story....The totally awesome band Fan Death recently took a whole bag-full of Emma Bell with them on their European tour and Dandi Wind, Marta and co could be seen rocking some of my stuff! In other news....'Pineapple Dance Studios' has now started on Sky1...this is the show I mentioned my stuff was going to be on....so check out my snaps of the old TV screen here and you can spot my Palm Tree dress and gold glitter jacket being donned by featured band, 'Starman' styled by Alexis Knox!!! I'm loving this show, it's a beaut and Louie Spence is my new favourite person on the telly...

Next story....last week saw work taking me back to Vienna which I was incredibly excited about to frequent a few old haunts, catch up on some strudel etc....I'm currently working on a big project there in which I will also present my latest collection for the first time which is a special showcase line opposed to my usual seasonal collections, hence the absence of AW10! I would show you some Vienna pictures but, the button fell off my camera in a scramble to snap a comedy photo of a handheld hoover called 'Fanny' that I spotted in a shop window....

COPENHAGEN AND SNOW-TIMES!

Goddag....that's what they say here...means Hello!!!
So last week we went whipping off to Denmark which was so much fun! After a crazy busy few weeks....I couldn't wait! Tra La La Danish Pastries!
The lovely guys at Gallery brought us over to cover 'Copenhagen Fashion Week' and once I heard the Little Mermaid lived there, I was all wrapped up in the thermals for the action.
Jam packed week and too many stories and exploits to tell so I shall give you the abridged version....so we went to lots of shows which was fun...I'm going to unleash some pictures from a couple of my fave shows!

Louise Amstrup- Loved this show! The collection titled, 'The City of Lost Children', opened with a short film and had some awesome digital prints!

Another favourite was Henrik Vibskov who presented his AW10 collection titled 'The Slippery Spiral Situation', in a huge warehouse opening with a band rocking monk-like attire...check out some of my pics...

Diesel, Across the Pond and other Frolics...

Boxy with Boxes and PANT INSPECTION!!!
OOOoooh Hiya!!!
So as I was saying...hectic couple of weeks!!! So Knoxy was recently appointed as stylist for a music video catalogue for Diesel's 'BE STUPID' campaign...
The project went on the rampage recruiting an array of creatives from designers, bloggers, musicians, stylists, artists, models tra la la....to appear in the magical video...
I've been working in wardrobe throughout the project which has been sooo much fun and a few new phrases were even invented including..."cupping the terrier" after someone caressed a man's beard like a kitten.... So anyway...watch this space and I shall pass the link over once the video has gone LIVE!!!

In other news...as you know, some of my garments went over to New York for their Christmas holidays for a very special shoot with Raquel Reed and Doe Deere, shot by Steve Prue.
The shots of Doe were used in her cover shot and feature in US Auxiliary Magazine...exciting stuff which, you can see above there! Love it!!!

Music Videos, Ladders and Stuff!

Evening!
It's been a while...the past few weeks have been crazy busy and many a cheap laugh has occured....so here is the LOWDOWNNN...
So last month I was working alongside Natalie on a music video that Alexis was styling one of the artists for....
We were working with Emeli Sande...She's an awesome singer/songwriter whose tracks include collaborations with with Chipmunk...
Her latest work is Naughty Boy presents; Wiley feat Emeli Sande, "Never Be your Woman"...which is kind of spooky because only the week before I had sat and watched 'Never be your woman' the movie....eek! Paranormal!
So here you go...here's the video itself in all it's glory!!!

Oohh and I also had to face one of my many irrational fears of stairs/ladders and climb up a particularly trecherous metal ladder in a mini skirt!!!jeepers!

Helloooo!!!
So over Christmas....a load of my clothes went on a little holiday Stateside!!! All packed up and ready to go, they jetted across the Atlantic to spend Christmas in New York!!!
All geared up was a very special shoot with Raquel Reed and Doe Deere shot by Steve Prue.
And rocking the menswear was Dylan Monroe!
Just a sneak preview for now!! Here you can see Raquel wearing my pink palm tree dress!!! But I LOVEEE the images that are en route!!! Super colourful and exciting!!Wooo!
