Helloooo!!!
Here's a little peek at the recent collaboration I did with Tokyo/Paris based photographer,
Yuji Watanabe and team. Yuji and I first teamed up in Tokyo when I was working in Japan so it's been AWESOMEEE to work together again, now that he's based in Europe!  You can see our previous project together HERE!!!
Our recent editorial was featured in US publication, Estela Magazine, and the pieces of clothing are from my latest collection 'The Hives of Lepi Spomini' that I developed in Maribor, Slovenia. Mucho thanks to the wonderful team that worked in producing our shoot!!!!

The Hives of Lepi Spomini!!!!!

Zdravo.....
So the past few weeks have been amazing and I have enjoyed enough magical and unforgettable memories to last me a lifetime and a half.... woaaahhh cheesy!!! As you know (because I've talked about it wayyy too much!) I've spent the past few weeks working in Slovenia living as a faux-Mariborian... doing things such as sewing in a creepy yet amazing 16th century ancient gallery with ghosts....posing as a pretend professional gingerbread maker....sampling every cake on offer....having a near death experience with a wayward umbrella....and too many antics to mention....
My reasons for being in this lovely city were to carry out my projects as part of my artist residency which was something I had been working in preparation for, for several months prior to touching down in Magical Maribor....so finally it is awesome to see it all come together! One aspect of my work there was the development of the pieces for my collection which is titled 'The Hives of Lepi Spomini'- Lepi Spomini is a Slovene phrase that translates as 'nice memories'...now if you click HERE this will take you to the project text on my website which basically gives the full low down of the concept, influences and all of the info about my new series of works- as it's a bit too long to pop onto the blog! So please check it out!!!
Another element within my work in Slovenia was to interact and collaborate with creatives who are working and living in Maribor to involve their input and creative ethos into my projects. I had the honour of working with the wonderfully talented, local photographer, Iris Aman Cara, as part of a collaboration which was also showcased at our 'Call Me Human Torch' exhibition... these are a few images from our shoot and of course you can see the full line up HERE!
So that's the deal with my latest works... and of course there was the exhibition that opened last week in which I was presenting my work alongside awesomeeeee visual artist, Jérôme Souillot....it's been A.M.A.Z.I.N.G to be able to work alongside Jérôme for this past few weeks as he's super talented and also finds things like musical lollypops funny....
It's been such an incredible experience working with the Guestroom Maribor programme and all of the wonderful people who have supported and worked with me along the way... I totally fell in love with the city and it's been awesome to work with so many new ideas, influences, creatives and medium...  I've put further info about the project and my activites HERE!!!
Ok, so this blog post is turning into a book...so I shall wrap it up.... be sure to check out the full low down on the new collection and project on my website: www.emma-bell.com....
I was sad to wave farewell to Slovenia a couple of days ago as the whole thing was so much fun and offered so much food for thought for my upcoming projects.... I still have a zillion photos from my final days there so I shall savour those for another post!!! HUGE HUGE thanks to all of the team at Guestroom Maribor and for the wonderful support of the project partners.... super duper thanks to Jérôme for the ongoing entertainment and special memories involving burnt toast etc.... Massive thanks to Iris and the photoshoot team, Katra and all of the lovely people that helped make my time there so great!!!
Alright...so image credits for the photoshoot:

Hair Stylist: Luis Roldan.

Right with that....I'm off the watch the Queen's Jubilee concert....

Hello Hello!!!

The project is the collaborative brainchild of David Tynnauer and Soraia Costa who work under the concept of 'Two continents, two languages, two cameras'. The duo, coming from backgrounds that include philosophy, theory of art, theatre science and performance art, together they produced these lovely images using some of my work during their recent project in London. So last week I had the pleasure of being interviewed by the 'Taipei Times' for a feature in their style section all about my recent project that I carried out in Taiwan. 'My Friend the Mosquito'

Hiya!!!!
As I've been banging on about it....I can now finally unleash my latest pieces of work created as a result of my project in Taiwan. Over the past few months, whilst based in Taipei, I have been working on both research journals and a small collection of garments which come together to form my most recent series of work titled, 'My Friend the Mosquito'. Another purpose for locating myself in Taiwan for a while was to have the opportunity to work and collaborate with a new bunch of creative talents as well as get to grips with the art and design scene in a different city. This selection of images was the final stage of my mission in Taipei in which I joined forces with a local creative team on location at Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall, a major landmark within the city.

Before I stop droning on, this is the official speile about the collection in case you want to peruse...
'‘My Friend the Mosquito’ is an off season collection of works developed and designed in Taipei, Taiwan 2011 as part of Emma’s position as Resident Artist at ‘Dream Community:Culture & Education Development Foundation’. The series of pieces present a juxtaposition to Emma’s previous collection focusing on camouflage and disguise techniques used by insects. The garments embrace pattern formations influenced by the features of moths native to Taiwan translated into surface embellishment and appliqué in exaggerated, saturated hues using holographic features. Other themes are inspired by the translucency and iridescence of mosquitoes alongside the idea of storytelling and methods of the heart drawing upon the concept of transformation taken from the Taiwanese folk tale, ‘The Tigress Witch’.
The collection also features a garment influenced by the annual lantern festival, which is constructed out of paper, bamboo, plastic and cotton.'

Hello Kitty Cafe!!!

Afternoon from Taipei!!!
This week has been by far my FAVOURITE week since I've been in Taiwan! It's been super busy, productive and sooo many fun times!!! Yesterday marked the final chapter of my project here and I was working with a local creative team, on location, shooting all of my new pieces! It was awesome to collaborate with a totally new bunch of talented people and I'll be posting updates and images all about that soon! Aside from that I've been squeezing in a tonne of exciting meetings in the last few days before I leave for the UK as well as drinking as much green tea milk as I can and doing a ridiculous amount of shopping! There's been lots of catching up with friends and seeing as much of the city as I can before I wave farewell to the island!

A few nights ago I finally got to do something I've been waiting to do FOREVER! We went to the Hello Kitty Cafe!!!! This gem is in Xhongxiao Fuxing in Taipei and is called 'Hello Kitty Sweets'!!! It was the best place I have ever been and I totally want to live in there! Everything was Kitty themed with rhinestones and sparkles everywhere and AMAZING cake!!! We went there for dinner so also saw some savoury action... they don't have an English menu in the cafe but, they have staff who could tell me what they could do for a vegetarian option! I ended up with some juicy pizza which I was happy about as my cravings for Western food are at the pinnacle right now!!Yayyy!

Obviously we had to sample some of the special Hello Kitty cakes which was the hardest decision ever because they ALL looked amazing and ludicrously cute!!!

The shop front is impressive....total Kitty Land....clearly I would have preferred to have taken a nice photo without the piles of garbage bags and the annoying car blocking the view...but you get the idea!!!

And now I own a special Hello Kitty toast cutter that I discovered in the SOGO Department store nearby...it goes without saying that from now on I will be making kitty toast for breakfast EVERY DAY!!!!
And that's the run down of the past few days!!! I only have a few days left here in Asia which I plan on being action packed and I'll be posting images from the shoot and my new work ASAP!!!
Love and Hello Kitty Dreamzzzz.
