A Knitted Boat and Brussel Sprouts!

Ahoy there!!!
I would totally LOVE to be a Pirate....I would have a pet parrot called Sebastian....
This weekend whilst up in the old hometown, I decided to get nautical and go and visit a mystical woollen ship that I heard about on the regional n
ewzzz....
I do LOVE a nice bit of knitwear as you all know...so when I heard about this corker of a knitted boat, I just had to hot foot it over to South Shields to have a cheeky peek!

AND...OH MY GOD.....IT IS ACTUALLY AMAZING!
Textile designer Ingrid Wagner hopped onboard as lead artist and this big, fat amazing community project unleashed itself! The project "Casting Off...A Coat for a Boat!" was created with the help of contributors hailing from the region as well as internationally and the support of The North East Maritime Trust. The delight was developed through a string of social knitting sessions (a bit like the ones we saw in whipping up my food dress-with a can of cider in hand!) and recycled bedsheets donated from Northgate Hospital Laundry.
I think the concept is AWESOME....and I was so im
pressed when I visited it! I wish I could have whipped up a starfish or two!!! :(
So anyway....have a gander at some pictures that I took....

Yes I want to be a mermaid and set sail on the woolly boat. Please.

If you are up in the North East, I would say you should DEFINITELY go and pay the ship of dreams a visit...super impressive! You can get yourself along to the Customs House www.customshouse.com or if you are down south, you can wait until October and see the boat at Alexandra Palace as part of The Knitting and Stitching Show... www.twistedthread.com
Ohh yah....and the experience was topped off with lunch on the seafront in which they served me the veggie option-Lasagna with brussel sprouts.....errm nice.
Check out Ingrid's work....it's amazing.mucho respecto!

That's a MAP...cherry cakes and knitting!!!

Yesterday saw a very productive knitting session with myself, my fabulous assistant Katie and Gina 'Mother With a Twist' at the needles of steel!!! It involved a copious sprinkling of glitter, cheese sandwiches and cherry cakes (picked up from the corner shop...the man in there likes to call me "Dollar" because of my tarnished necklace that I acquired from a fancy dress shop...he is creepy and weird)! I'm not going to give too much away as that will spoil the surprise of what's in store for SS09...so hold your horses...patience is a virtue, don't you know!
Gina came with a very special gift....I have an obsession with maps....I love them....so imagine my ear-piercing squeals of delight when she presented me with a gourmet map-print pillowcase!!! It's the best thing in the world!
Strangely, this isn't the only piece of map-orientated paraphernalia that I have received in the past week.....my chum Jobot unleashed a corker of an inflatable globe which can either serve as a beach ball or a nice bit of decorative art to transform any old room or shack into an all singing, all dancing, el rustico, worldly paradise!!!
Check out the goods....

Instant Mash, Knitting Needles and Wild Dogs....

Today saw a hardcore knitting session in my kitchen complete with getting to grips with circular needles and plying the knit bitches with bowls of instant mash and mint sauce....yum....if that is not gourmet then I do not know what is?!
Then came the arrival of a new housemate....a HUGE dog....who appears to be residing here until Sunday....I hate dogs...especially big ones....so I'm hardly throwing a "Welcome Mr. Labrador" bash....also the dog keeps staring at me in a menacing manner...I think he hates me....
The pinnacle came when Rael made his entrance into the house...the dog went wild, barking, and almost pinning poor Rael to the wall with his claws of steel.....not hot....I would actually die!
The dog was not invited to join in on the knitting action, however we are getting some great pieces whipped up for SS09....I only like cats...especially my cat....little Tango...he's ginger and amazing!
