Ciao 2010, Hello Next Adventure!

Ooh hiya!
I intended to churn out some kind of round-up and Happy New Year speile when it was actually new year...not when it's nearing the end of January...but anywayzzz...
Can't believe how fast this past year has zipped by...I also can't believe that I have spent the most of it overseas with only the odd week here and there to indulge in home stuff like Hollyoaks, beans on toast and veggie lasagne!
2010 for me was quite different compared to the normal shizz I've been up to this past few years...for one I wasn't in London and secondly I've worked on a series of projects opposed to my seasonal Fashion Week shows...
At the start of the year I had the pleasure of working with my chum and magical stylist Alexis Knox on a whole bunch of stuff....we saw it all from climbing up ladders at music video shoots...to creeping around filming in spooky, old pubs! Fun times! We also whipped over to Copenhagen to cover fashion week for Notion Magazine...that was a cheap laugh too!
A huge chunk of the year was spent working on curating and directing the 'Fish and Chips, Twice Please?!' exhibition that was hosted over in Vienna with the lovely Polona Dolzan. Such a fun project to work on and great to have so many talented people on board...and just to mention it one more time...WE GOT JUST UNDER 30,000 VISITORS!!!WEEEEEEEEE!
It was awesome to be based in Central Europe for a while and to create my SS11 collection alongside a load of curly palaces, schnitzels and lederhosens!
I was sad to say farewell to Vienna after so long but, excited as the next delight was 3 months working over in Japan....which I've already gone on about a lot recently....so I'll pipe down!
One of the things I've loved most this past year was to work in totally different surroundings and have the opportunity to work with a lot of new people...it's been a fun one!
Was lovely to come back to the UK over the Christmas and have a nice long kip...and FINALLY my luggage turned up so now I have a ridiculous amount of trinkets and treats that I brought back from Japan!
Right now I'm preparing to head of on my next adventure as next week I'll be whizzing off to Taipei to start on my next project...I'm going to be based in Taiwan for the next few months as Artist in Residence and imagine my delight when I found out they have a temple made of shells and a Hello Kitty Maternity hospital! So I'll be updating on that once I'm there!
Ooh also got an exciting parcel this morning...the catalogues from the 'Let Momo Eat Cake' exhibition arrived! Exciting stuff! You can see a picture of them above alongside a recent feature of the new collection!
Right, I'm off to make lunch and then get crafty with some dyeing!

A Hundred Lovers and Whirlers Round Two!!!

Guten Tag and Happy Easter AKA Frohe Ostern!!!
Last week I trotted back to Vienna to base myself within my new studio where I shall be working from for the next 6 months!wooo! My arrival didn't go as planned....I had a weird feeling something was going to go wrong and sure enough...ALL of my luggage went AWOL en route to Austria! I couldn't believe it, I thought I was going to be sick...I was most concerned that a) all of m
y work equipment was in there and b)my make-up was also MIA....I had to haggle for a complimentary pack which, contained a T-shirt, toothbrush etc...Luckily my bags eventually turned up the next day...but it was a day of doom!
So anyway, first thought I would whack out Diesel's 'A Hundred Lovers' video
featuring the new single from Josep Xorto...a few weeks ago I mentioned I was working in the wardrobe department for the interactive film that was accompanying their 'BE STUPID' campaign alongside Alexis who was styling the whole extravaganza...

It rolled like this.....

That's the round up to that chapter of delights!
And here I am, back in Vienna AKA Whirlers...wooo
eee!!! The past 3 months I have been working on a big project in which I am currently creative director of a contemporary fashion exhibition which will open in the Freiraum International Gallery in the Museums Quartier in June. The exhibition will feature an array of juicy designers based in the UK as well as talent from complimenting fields including; illustration, photography, fashion film, animation, styling and technical craft! So right now it's full stream ahead working on this exciting avenue alongside curator Polona Dolzan ...fun times ahead! Alongside this, the exhibition will feature my special showcase collection so there is plenty of sewing, bejewelling, dyeing, knitting and co going on 24/7 in the studio of dreams!!!

The past few days have been pretty consumed with work and settling in etc...so I don't have any spectacular photos of princess palaces and the likes....however...my excitement over foreign supermarkets never grows old...so here are some pictures of the contents of my fridge and stuff....

Whirlers CRIBS and STYLEAUT Launch!

Oohhh iyya Little Schnitzels!
Good afternoon...so as I said hectic week post Vienna Fashion Week and all....
Tuesday was crazy busy with me hosting an open studio, presenting my work at the Styleaut launch, a TV crew rocking round, a press conference AND the opening of the new "Real World Laboratory" exhibition!!! Wowzer....hectic-a-rama! I wanted to sleep forever afterwards....but we still found time to enjoy some drinks in the MQ and be harrassed by a tramp that spoke a million
languages!
ORF....which is Austria's answer to the BBC popped into my studio to film...CRIBS STYLE ...(oh and one of the camera crew's Dad was a Geordie!!love it!) as part of a day totally
dedicated to the wonderful work of Quartier21...the programme that are supporting my stay and project here in Vienna!
Later on we attended the press conference before opening up our doors to press and public and hosting an open studio!
One of my fellow artists in residence also held a presentation in our lobby...

This is Eva Kotatkova who is a Prague based artist whose bases her work around her environment and the "basic" structured communities of household, family and education and their natural mechanisms. Her ethos is to present these institutions in a new context by reflecting her personal position within them.
So the final stint of the day saw the opening of the new Styleaut boutique here in the Museums Quartier, owned by director Boris Berghammer. Styleaut is also my amazing cultural sponsor representa
tive here in Vienna...and they have an online store....click here!
The concept store also hosts a gallery space in which some of my work was displayed for the launch event! It's still the
re now...so go and have a look!

Ok...there you go! A very exciting week!I'm off for a shandy and to sew....

Vienna Fashion Week!

Oooooohhh iyyya!
So....my show is looming...so I'm taking a couple of moments out to spread the word 'innit!
Wednesday is D-Day....so as you can imagine....right now it looks like this....

Wednesday marks both my unleashment of a preview portion of my SS10 collection as well as my debut at Vienna Fashion Week! So whole new ball game all round....after 3 seasons at LFW...and living and working in London for so many years....its an exciting change! And it's weird that I sit sewing looking at big old curly buildings and listening to sick German radio instead of looking down at Catch and listening to someone pissing up against my front door...much as I miss it!
But I can't compare them as they are totally different experiences!
In other news the impending show has meant some serious hours spent burning the midnight oil...and my addiction to energy drinks has returned...I've sampled pretty much ALL the Austrian market has to offer...POWER HORSE, BURN, FULL SPEED....(full speed tastes like SHIT.) and I have to admit none compare to my LOVE OF RELENTLESS....what I would do for a Relentless and THE BOX right now...
So anyway....the show is wednesday at 9pm....a seperate press showcase will be happening at 7pm...so any media to contact the PR...
http://www.mqviennafashionweek.com/
The show at 9pm is going to be held in the tent at MQ Vienna...and is open for everyone! So come along!
Oohh also...today, the 19th...marks the one year anniversary to the day of my first ever solo show at London Fashion Week!spppoooookkkyyy!
Ok...so back to my sewing and Girls Aloud.....
Ciao
Love and Relentless

Japan Media Arts Festival 2009

Afternoon!
In need of a break from sewing in the race for my show at Vienna Fashion Week on the 23rd of September....I rocked along to the launch of the "Japan Media Arts Festival" right here in the MQ Vienna!
It was awesome, with various gadgets and gizmos aimed at stimulating the senses....lots of sound orientated delights and pretty lights...lots of fun games....
Aiming to create a cultural exchange between Japan and Austria! Animation, art and Manga....it was a treat....
The exhibition is running until the 20th in Ovalhalle in Area21, MQ so if you are in Vienna...go have a look!!!

Hallo!(Coz' that's what they say here!)
So...thought I would check in with some tra la la...UPDATESS!
I've been in Whirlers Central for a week now...and I am super happy...and I am pleased to have found a hidden gem in Vienna....
My debut at Vienna Fashion Week is a welcome change...and I
'm counting down the days till my show...23rd September!!Woooop!
In between sewing by the window...and gazing at the beautiful view...I have been getting to grips with Whirlers....
There's so much to see and do here....
First talking point...Prater....my new favouri
te place...now as we all know I do love a good funfair and a hot gypsy boy....so Prater is the most awesome place ever!
It's a big old theme park....some bits are kinda sick and old skool....SUPE
R SICK puppets and clowns...even one that appears to be brandishing a KNIFE!GOSHHHH! They have lots of AMAZING rides and games....and the BEST beer garden that hosts some gourmet Veggie options on the menu!!!
I also rocked the zoo...and visited the beautiful Shonbrunn Palace...which is like a mini Versailles and met some awesome people!!!
I am falling more and more in love with the Museums Quartier everyday, as there's always so many things going on there and it's nice to be based in a complex with so many other fellow creatives!
I have a new neighbour...who is a designer also, from the Netherlands....and she's awesome so we have been going on lots of adventures! You can chec
k out her work....HERE!!!
Leonie is also going to be showing at Vienna Fashion Week!!!

We found the BEST fabric warehouse IN THE WORLD!! Bit of a mission to get to...we ended up lost in the Austrian countryside and blagging free trains....but totally worth it!! Floors of zillions of amazing fabric, trims, zips....and also other random stuff like toilet seats....Christmas Baubels, frying pans and the likes!!
Ok so I'm going to leave you with some pictures of what's been happ
ening!
